True Colors

Meet Bob. Bob was a nice young man. He said good morning with a smiling face, he held the doors open for others. If anyone needed a favor, Bob was quick to help no matter his other plans. Everyone liked Bob, for the most part. Until one day, Bob snapped. He was having a rough week, and the hits just kept coming. So, out of the blue, poor ole Bob had an ” I just don’t have time for this!” moment. Then the rumors start…. ” Bob showed his true colors today.” The outcome of the incident only discouraged Bob from wanting to help others. If this is the way he was going to be treated, what was the point?
Let me introduce you to Suzy. Suzy is an older lady, normally pretty cranky. Most folks prefer to stear clear of her. She has an awful habit of criticizing others and being rude. One day, someone noticed that every Wednesday, Suzy volunteers at a homeless shelter. She told her friends, and they talked amongst themselves about how nice that was, and they never expected anything nice coming from that lady. Nothing else was said later. Being everyone only wants to acknowledge Suzy as being mean and rude and not for her kind heart she shows behind closed doors, Suzy will continue to be mean in rude.
Two different people, two different scenarios, two different personalities. The nice guy who snaps, gets judged and falsely labeled. The rude lady, who secretively has a heart of gold, gets a shrug off and is still labeled “the rude lady”. It doesn’t matter what you do in life, if you’re trying to please mere people, you will fail and be let down. It is impossible to please people, IMPOSSIBLE! We either worry about making others happy and are miserable, or we make ourselves happy and are miserable with the feedback. The only way to feel satisfied in life, is to worry about only pleasing one….. Our Lord! We live by his rules, follow his ways, and do as we know he wants us to do, and not worrying about what others think. Others opinions will no long matter, anxiety goes down, so on and so forth.
So Bob, the lord knows that you are a nice man, he knows you will bend over backwards for anyone. So, don’t let the negative comments from your one snap set you back. He knows how awesome you are. Suzy, he knows that you have a heart of gold. So, don’t let the others opinions of your personality define who you are. Our true colors are those that shine when we do God’s work! The negative does not define you, your true colors do!
