We got invited to a party over the weekend. It was going to be a huge blow out! 3 bands were going to be playing, lots of food cooked, and a waterslide for the kiddos. But, we decided not to go. You see, it was my birthday weekend and before we heard about this party, we had already started planning a camping trip with our kids. My husband’s mom tried to convince my hubs to leave the kids with them so him and I could spend some time together. But that’s not what I wanted. I wanted a family trip with quality time together. Let me tell you, that’s exactly what we got. We had one of the best camping trips I think I have ever had. We were up at the crack of dawn starting off our day, full of adventure and non-stop fun and ending our day with sunset swims, roasting marshmallows, guitar jams, and pillow fights. Let’s just say, even though we were tired, my son cried wanting to stay 3 more days. Upon our arrival back home, we were welcomed with a “all I have to say is yall really missed out!” Did we now? Because the way I see it is, there will always be parties. There will always be bands playing. There will always be water slides. But you know what? My kids won’t always be 8 and 5. They won’t always enjoy and want to spend time with their parents. It won’t be long before they don’t want our time anymore and they want to be off with their cousins or friends. So no, I didn’t miss out on a thing. I got the best birthday present and trip in the world. That was making memories with my babies! Don’t miss out on life for a party… there will always be a party…. Make memories instead!
